I am Adrian Johnson and previously lived in Baldock for 17 years. Since then I have been living in Ickleford working locally as “Adrian the Handyman” for just over 3 years. Suzanne Roynon has lived in Hertfordshire all her life and has been living in Ickleford for over 10 years.
We recognise that Ickleford Parish Council (IPC) do excellent work around the village and appreciate and respect their hard work. We want safer roads and would support effective alternatives. However evidence suggests that due to a number of factors the IPC have let the village down on the issue of traffic calming and in particular at their decision to allow 11 road humps to be installed over a very short stretch of Turnpike Lane and Arlesey Road.
We respectfully but firmly appeal to the IPC to carefully look back at every stage of the process that has led us to a situation where 11 road humps are due to be installed in the village any day now. Evidence confirms that the Parish Plan Questionnaire in 2006 and subsequent survey on traffic proposals in 2008 were badly worded and constructed, results have not been independently checked and verified, and by asking biased and leading questions we do not believe that true and informed opinion has been correctly gathered.
Now is the opportunity for the IPC to use their infleunce to delay installation of these humps whilst more evidence is gathered. Due to pressure from Highways the process has been pushed through to ensure money was allocated to Ickleford and not lost to some other village. This has resulted in an ill thought out solution and serious mistakes in the whole process.
This campaign has increasing support and we believe that the costs and upheaval to the village, businesses, individuals, the wider community, and the IPC will be immense if 11 road humps are installed and then subsequently removed due to public pressure.
