Reporting Highway Faults - Potholes, poor road surface, footpath trip hazards, repainting required, etc...
We all know the roads are bad at the moment. It is blamed on the weather although driving throughout the South East of England it feels like roads in Hertfordshire are by far the worst and yet surely they all had similar weather.
To report highway faults call Hertfordshire Highways on 01438 737320. Alternatively you can do it online at www.hertsdirect.org/actweb/hfr/default.cfm. It is very quick and easy, but unfortunately the website is not clear so if you require help please follow the instructions below:
- Use the “Please select a service followed by a subject” dropdown box, e.g. “Carriageway/road/cycleway”.
- Then click on the most appropriate subject from the list below the dropdown box, e.g. “Pothole in Road” There is a “Most used today...” section under the dropdown box as a useful shortcut to the most popular reports.
- Type in the road name where the problem is and press the “Search” button, e.g. Ryder Way
- Slide the vertical “Zoomer” in the top left hand corner of the map. I found zooming out didn't work very well and the zoom in a little slow, but it does work.
- Once you can see the exact location of the fault on the map, click on the “Locate fault” tab which is the 4th tab across the top of the map.
- Now click on the map in the exact location of the fault
- A little box pops up. Click on the “Continue” link in that box.
- Fill in a helpful description about the problem and any optional contact information and press the “Continue” button.
- You are then asked to re-check the form that all the information is correct. If not press the “Back” button, otherwise press the “Submit fault report” button.
- You will then be given a reference number display in red. Make a note of it an then you can track the progress of the report using the “Check the status of a fault already reported” feature at the bottom of the same page at www.hertsdirect.org/actweb/hfr/default.cfm.
After a fault is reported an inspector will come out and assess the situation within 5-10 days (hopefully sooner) and then appropriate action will be decided. All things are done on a priority based on reports, so the more people who report the same danger the more likely it will be resolved sooner - so don't leave it to others, report it yourself!
